Allende Cocina Mexicana opened Monday at 170 S. 1st St., taking over the former Stack’d Burger Bar and wrapping its first week with a Valentine’s Day service that featured a beet and white chocolate infused mole. Run by Cesar Lopez and his wife, Yolanda Herrera Montes, the new spot leans on family tradition and seasonal produce, adding another Mexican option to downtown Milwaukee’s 1st Street dining lineup.
Lopez, who grew up working in his family’s Cielito Lindo, told Urban Milwaukee he wants to carry that legacy forward while carving out a distinct lane in an already crowded local scene. A wedding photograph from San Miguel de Allende hangs in the entryway as a nod to the couple’s roots and the restaurant’s namesake, according to the outlet.
The menu sticks with familiar comfort dishes while spotlighting seasonal standouts. Tacos, burritos and enchiladas share space with a flor de calabaza (squash blossom) quesadilla that the restaurant lists as a core plate on its online ordering page.
