Naperville’s Matrix Club Booted Overnight, Sending Proms Into Panic Mode

The Matrix Club, a sprawling events venue on Route 59 in Naperville, abruptly shut its doors this week after what appears to be an eviction, leaving proms, weddings and nonprofit galas scrambling to find new homes. Organizers and families say they got little warning and are now racing to salvage dates and deposits.

Owner: ‘legal proceedings continue’

In a statement to ABC7 Chicago, the venue’s owner confirmed the closure and said that “legal proceedings continue.” The company told the station it is “working to establish a structured process” to deal with deposits for clients whose events cannot be held while the dispute is unresolved.

Landlord: eviction followed unpaid bills

Project Naperville, the property management company that controls the building at 808 S. Route 59, said it evicted The Matrix Club and told local TV that the business owed around $1.4 million in unpaid rent, construction charges and vendor liens. The landlord said it even stepped in to pay some contractor bills to stave off foreclosure. The club’s owners dispute those numbers and say the eviction went forward without detailed billing, according to NCTV17.

Schools and nonprofits scramble for space

At least three Naperville high school proms — for Neuqua Valley, Metea Valley and Naperville Central — were on the books at The Matrix Club, and districts and parents had to scramble for backup plans once the venue canceled events. The Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau is helping organizers rebook, and Mayor Scott Wehrli called the closure “disappointing” for both customers and employees, according to the Daily Herald.

Bolingbrook parent Yatiksha Rao told ABC7 Chicago she was about to pay a final $6,000 balance before learning the club had closed, and that she filed a police report in an effort to recover her deposit.

Court timeline and appeals

Court records and local reporting show that an eviction complaint was filed in DuPage County on March 18, 2025. An eviction order was entered on Dec. 16, 2025, and the club vacated the space this week. The owners say they have filed an appeal. Monetary claims tied to the lease and contractor liens remain unresolved and had a scheduled proceeding on Feb. 23, according to NCTV17.

Where to go from here

City officials say the Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau is working to match displaced groups with available venue space while vendors and couples try to salvage deposits or reschedule dates. The Matrix Club website still lists contact information for booking inquiries, and organizers with urgent needs are being directed to the CVB and to their event contracts for guidance on refunds and rescheduling. For contact details, see the venue’s site at Matrix Club, and the CVB’s events team is assisting local groups, according to the Daily Herald…
