$45,000 damage in Rockford garage fire, cause under investigation

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Fire Department is investigating a residential structure fire that happened on Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to 2105 Cumberland Street around 3 o’clock for a detached garage fire. The first engine on scene reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage. The garage door was removed to gain access to extinguish the fire. Thirteen firefighters responded and the fire was controlled under ten minutes. The residence was not damaged.

No firefighter or occupants were injured. The damage is estimated at $45,000 and the garage and car inside are a total loss. The cause of fire is still under investigation…
