Even as glossy new residential towers rise across the Houston metro, a roughly 40-year-old condominium tower in River Oaks continues to attract the city’s highest-end buyers. For the second year in a row, the priciest condo sale in Houston took place at the Huntingdon, a 34-story high-rise that has been a River Oaks landmark since 1984.
Developed by James E. Lyon, the Huntingdon features stately architecture, generous floor plans and sweeping skyline views that have helped sellers command prices near the top of the market. Only seven units have sold in the building over the past two years, according to Houston Association of Realtors data, with sale prices ranging from about $1.1 million to nearly $7.8 million. Yet last year alone, two Huntingdon residences ranked among Houston’s five most expensive penthouse and condominium sales.
Still, newer towers are making their mark on Houston’s luxury condo market. The Hawthorne, a 17-story high-rise in Tanglewood developed by Pelican Builders in 2024, accounted for two of the five most expensive condo sales last year.
