Cowgirls on Wrong End of 56-54 Loss to Boise State

LARAMIE, Wyo. (PRESS RELEASE) – It was a back-and-forth battle for 40 minutes Saturday afternoon but ultimately Boise State came away with a 56-54 win over the Wyoming Cowgirls thanks to a made layup with 14 seconds left to break a 54-54 tie.

Both teams started off cold from the floor before a Malene Pedersen fadeaway got the first points of the contest. Pedersen accounted for Wyoming’s first five points. The Cowgirls led at the first media timeout, 9-4. Following the timeout, the Broncos came alive and took their first lead of the game. The rest of the quarter saw the two teams trading the lead back-and-forth before Boise State ended the frame with the final six to take a 19-16 lead after one.

The Cowgirls scored the first five points of the second quarter to reclaim the lead before the Broncos’ work on the offensive glass started leading to second-chance points and the free-throw line. Boise State led 25-21 at the media. Out of the timeout, a Henna Sandvik driving layup was followed by another Bronco mini run. A Jane Rumpf 3-pointer and a Sandvik pull-up jumper to beat the buzzer got UW within one at 31-30 at halftime…
