Monmouth man accused of attempted murder after Salem store shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Monmouth man has been accused of attempted murder after an altercation in a Salem convenience store erupted into gunfire.

On Saturday, just before 7 p.m., the Salem Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at the U.S. Market on Broadway Street NE. When officers arrived, a clerk told them that he and a customer had gotten into an argument.

Accused burglars targeted tragedy victims on the news

The witness said the customer left the store, got a gun from his car, and broke a store window with the butt of his pistol. The store clerk hid and narrowly avoided getting shot by the man, who let off rounds as he was leaving, police say.
