New Verizon 5G Tower Servicing Clifton Park

A brand-new Verizon 5G tower went up in Halfmoon (behind DeVoe’s Rainbow Orchard off Route 9 near Walmart). It’s a full-size “macro” site, the kind that covers a big chunk of Clifton Park, but as of the time of this post, it’s not turned on yet.

What The New Verizon 5G Tower Means

  • Stronger signal where you live, drive, and shop: Once it’s live, expect better bars across much of Clifton Park, especially around Route 9, the Northway (I-87), Halfmoon border, and central neighborhoods. It should help in spots that have felt spotty before.
  • Better phone calls and texts: Fewer dropped calls, clearer connections, even inside buildings or in the car.
  • Faster data: Quicker Netflix/YouTube, smoother FaceTime, faster Google Maps, and less buffering.
  • Town-wide boost: These big towers reach 5+ miles (as the crow flies), so it’s not just the Walmart parking lot.

We don’t know the exact date they’re turning this one (Verizon doesn’t send press releases for every tower), but these things usually light up within a few weeks to a couple months after they’re built. Keep an eye on your signal, you’ll notice when it suddenly gets a lot better or an extra eyeball starts growing out of your belly button.

Verizon users (or anyone on Verizon postpaid, Visible, US Mobile, Total Wireless, Straight Talk, etc.) will see stronger bars, better calls inside stores/homes/cars, and faster 5G data once it turns on.

A Bit of Tech Stuff (You can Skip, I’m a nerd)

The tower is equipped with n77 (Verizon’s main 5G mid-band spectrum — the “Goldilocks” frequency that gives both good speed and decent range). Someone spotted it at a weak -104 dBm with PCI 125 while driving near the Walmart. Right now the phone is falling back to a small cell/DAS inside or near the Walmart, pulling that same weak 5G from a distant site (in NSA mode, meaning it’s still leaning on 4G for some things).

Once this macro fires up, it’ll be a big upgrade for coverage and capacity. Verizon’s been on a roll here — they turned on another new one along Rt 9/I-87 last summer too…
