Former fire chief cleared by SLED facing ethics hearing

A former Bluffton Township Fire Chief who had been under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will not face any charges from the agency, officials said.

“SLED was requested on March 14, 2025, by the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office to investigate allegations of embezzlement that involved Bluffton Fire Chief Paul Boulware,” SLED Spokesperson Renee Wunderlich said Feb. 6. “The case was closed, and no charges were filed.”

While he does not face any charges with SLED, Boulware still faces two ethics complaints and will appear in front of the state’s ethics commission for an April 16 hearing, according to the agency…
