SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Smithfield Foods is moving its plant from its longtime location next to Falls Park to a location in Foundation Park. The move should lead to the expansion of the city’s downtown.
“So today, I’m excited to announce that Smithfield plans to make a significant investment to build a new state of the art fresh pork and packaged meats processing facility from the ground up. We are planning to build at a location in Foundation Park, ” Shane Smith, the CEO and President of Smithfield, said in a Monday news conference.
The company estimates it will spend up to $1.3 billion over the next three years. Smith said the plan will need regulatory permit approval as well as the plant design will need to be approved by the company’s board of directors…
