Colorado-Nebraska-Kansas Weather Alert: Extreme Fire Danger With 30+ MPH Winds Tuesday Afternoon

Denver, Colorado – A volatile mix of 30 mph winds and humidity near 15 percent will create explosive wildfire conditions across northeast Colorado, western Nebraska and extreme northwest Kansas by late Tuesday morning.

According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, extremely critical fire weather conditions are expected to develop across the central High Plains and intensify through the afternoon. Sustained southwest winds exceeding 30 mph, combined with very dry fuels, could allow any spark to spread rapidly and uncontrollably.

The highest threat zone includes areas near Fort Collins, Denver and Laramie eastward toward Grand Island, Nebraska, with critical conditions extending south toward Pueblo and into northwest Kansas. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and even routine activities such as towing chains, parking on dry grass or using equipment that generates sparks could ignite fast-moving grassfires…
