CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – WAVY reached out to Virginia State Police after receiving images from a viewer showing a traffic backup on I-64 in Chesapeake Monday afternoon.
A spokesperson confirmed that around noon, a truck hauling an excavator struck hanging cables from a work zone on Interstate 64 westbound near Greenbrier Parkway. This caused the cables to hang down low and be struck by additional vehicles.
Just after 3 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation posted on social media that traffic was still impacted near exit 289, “with one general-purpose lane and one local lane remaining open.”…
