This Day in Michigan History: Ice fishers catch 193-pound sturgeon

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – On Feb. 16, 1974, a Grand Haven angler pulled off an icefishing feat that’s still unmatched.

Joe Maka speared a lake sturgeon in Mullet Lake that weighed 193 pounds.

At seven feet long, it’s still Michigan’s largest recorded fish…
