Two men charged with drug trafficking and contraband near Staton Prison in Alabama

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. — Two men were arrested Saturday after Alabama Department of Corrections officials say they were found with a backpack containing large amounts of drugs and suspected prison contraband near Staton Correctional Facility.

According to ADOC, the agency’s K-9 team assigned to the facility took Tyrone Davis and Kelvin Gibbons into custody on Feb. 14, 2026.

Authorities say the suspects face the following charges:

  • Trafficking methamphetamine
  • Trafficking synthetic cannabinoids
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Attempting to promote prison contraband, second degree

Investigators reported that a backpack in the suspects’ possession contained approximately 171 gross grams of methamphetamine, 802 gross grams of marijuana and 87 gross grams of white printer paper sprayed with synthetic cannabinoids…
