A Pennsylvania snowbird was arrested after celebrating Mardi Gras in The Villages.
Troy Lynn Long, 62, was driving a white Yamaha golf cart at about 6 p.m. Friday at Lake Sumter Landing when he was pulled over for blue lights which were illuminating both sides of the bottom exterior of the golf cart, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
When a deputy approached the golf cart, he spotted an open 12-ounce Miller Lite beer can in an orange football koozie in the cup holder. Long, who was identified by his Pennsylvania driver’s license, admitted he had been drinking at the Mardi Gras celebration at the square. Three additional beers were found in a cooler in the golf cart.
Long, who purchased a villa this past June in the La Paloma Villas near the Tierra Del Sol Recreation Center, agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, but his poor performance led deputies to conclude he had been driving impaired.
