NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Firefighters encountered nearly 20 snakes while battling a blaze inside a South Carolina home in the Lowcountry on Thursday, officials say.
The North Charleston Fire Department said crews were responding to the 2500 block of Vistavia Road, where they found a large house fire and made entry to fight the blaze while also searching for anyone who may have been inside.
Fire officials said the flames were under control within about seven minutes, and the department acknowledged that one person was displaced. But while no human injuries were reported among the firefighters or the resident, authorities said some of the 19 snakes they encountered while fighting the fire did not survive…
