PSC approves smaller-than-requested LG&E, KU rate hikes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Public Service Commission approved smaller-than-requested increases to Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas ane Electric gas and electric rates, saying the money will help fund infrastructure upgrades and cover rising costs from severe weather.

In a final order on Monday, the PSC approved a 6.54% increase for the average residential KU electric customer using approximately 1,085 kilowatt-hours per month. That adds roughly $8.73 to a typical monthly bill, increasing it from $133.57 to $142.30. KU originally asked for an 11.5% increase — its first request since 2020.

For LG&E electric, the PSC approved a 4.73% increase for the average residential customer, or approximately $5.14 more per month, increasing the average bill from $108.76 to $113.90. The commission also raised LG&E’s natural gas rates by 11.09% for the average residential customer — an increase of about $8.27 per month — taking the average bill from $74.59 to $82.86.
