The SLATE Missouri Job Center is stepping up to bat for veterans and their families through its latest initiative, MO HEROES CONNECT, which is funneling resources and energy into ensuring a smoother transition for those who have served our nation into the civilian workforce. By offering access to various forms of vocational training and apprenticeships, MO HEROES CONNECT is directly targeting the employment struggles that often beset veterans and military families after service, as per the City of St. Louis.
Eligibility for the program is extended to a few key groups, which encompass Active Duty Veterans and AGR individuals meeting federal veteran definitions, members of the National Guard or Reserve Components, and not forgetting the spouses of these service members who are currently unemployed, with a special focus on those recently separated from the military and those recently returned from deployment. Interventions are diverse, including occupational skills training, financial assistance in times of hardship, childcare, and transportation support, services that understand and are tailored to the obstacles these families so often face when they step off the base and into the job hunt.
Inspired by a deep appreciation for military service, the initiative is indeed a move in solidarity, recognizing that the return to civilian life is not merely an administrative change but a life shift that necessitates support from various angles.
