3 students, 1 historic ‘yes’: How De Smet Jesuit is revolutionizing Catholic education

CREVE COEUR, Mo. — De Smet Jesuit High School is an all-boys catholic school in Creve Coeur, but the admission of three particular boys has changed the way the school lives out its mission to take young men and train them to be of service to others.

The school began an inclusion program in the fall 2023, but the 2025-26 school year is the first time they’ve been able to use an inclusion room for the two juniors and one sophomore student in the program, all of whom have Down syndrome.

A historic ‘yes’

The inclusion room allows for self-contained special education classes during rotating block schedules each day. The students in the program learn life skills such as cooking, laundry and entrepreneurial skills.
