In major twist, FirstEnergy execs seek to toss charges in bribery trial

AKRON, Ohio — Defense attorneys asked a judge to throw out criminal charges against two former FirstEnergy executives during the high-profile bribery trial because of accusations of prosecutorial misconduct.

Attorneys for former CEO Chuck Jones and the company’s top lobbyist Michael Dowling say in a court filing made public on Monday that Summit County Common Pleas Judge Susan Baker Ross should dismiss the case because the prosecution failed to disclose conversations it had with a key witness.

If Baker Ross allows the trial to continue, defense attorneys say she should tell the jury that prosecutors didn’t share all evidence with the defense…
