‘It will make students unsafe’: Safety administrators cut as part of JCPS budget decisions

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Some safety administrators for Jefferson County Public Schools say getting rid of them to try and fix the district’s budget crisis will make schools less safe.

On Friday, Feb. 13, the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Board of Education voted 5 to 2 to approve organizational changes in the district’s central office. Those changes will result in hundreds of job cuts, including the entire School Safety Administrator program.

“The $3 million that you’re cutting from the budget, really, that $3 million means more than the buildings being safe?” asked Emery Richardson, a 13-year JCPS employee who’s been working as a safety administrator since the program was started back in 2022…
