Grocery store prepares for Fat Tuesday with sweet treats, sweet deals

BRODHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Fat Tuesday is just around the corner, and one local grocery store is getting ready in a big way. The ShopRite in Brodheadsville is kicking off a 24-hour baking marathon on Monday, all leading up to their Annual Donut Day.

Inside the world’s largest ShopRite, employees are preparing to bake thousands of donuts, all within 24 hours.

Starting Monday at 5:00 p.m., the store kicks off 24 hours of nonstop baking to get ready for their Annual Donut Day, traditionally held on Fat Tuesday.

ShopRite Bakery Manager, Kathy Lockwitch, says customers look forward to this every year.

“Our customers look forward to it. They’ve been asking us for weeks how, you know, ‘How soon is it gonna come up?’ And I’ve been doing it for over 45 years, so it’s been a long time that I’ve done this, but makes everybody happy,” Lockwitch said.

The ShopRite Bakery Manager is calling for all hands-on deck, with 35 employees working through 24 hours to prepare for Donut Day.
