Dozens of dogs were rescued last week from an Iowa property where they were kept chained outside without adequate shelter or food, officials said.
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa said it got a call before dawn on Feb. 12 to assist the Story County Sheriff’s Office with an animal welfare case at a property about an hour north of Des Moines. The team arrived to find 33 dogs “in dire need.”
“We arrived to find dogs chained to trees or trapped in makeshift pens,” the League said. “Many of the dogs were thin under their dirty, matted fur.”…
