Endangered cotton-top tamarin born in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa — For the third year in a row, an endangered primate was born at the Blank Park Zoo.

The zoo announced on Wednesday that a girl cotton-top tamarin named Blanca was born to parents Kida and Eddie on January 21.

According to the zoo, Blanca’s name celebrates the zoo’s 60th anniversary in 2026 and the country of Colombia, where cotton-top tamarins are native. Blanca, which translates to white in Spanish, points to the primate’s white crest and honors the Blank family, the zoo said.
