ROSCOE, Ill. (WIFR) – Behind the brick walls of Knniknnick School in Roscoe, miracles are flourishing as the school welcomes a new position to support students.
Allison Watt taught special education for more than 20 years. Following a brief break, the Kinniknnick School principal approached Watt about becoming the school’s first “Student Support Interventionist.”
Watt now holds the that title, impacting the lives of students in a way she never knew she could.
“I work with fourth and fifth graders in my building,” said Watt. “I work with students who need any support whatsoever, attendance, discipline, academics, anything social, emotional, so I’m kind of the person who the kids know I’m here for them everyday. I’m not the disciplinarian, my goal is to make the students feel safe at school and that they have a person.”
Of the 31 students on Watt’s caseload, 10 students who had D’s and F’s in first quarter improved to all A’s, B’s, and C’s in the second quarter. But Watt says it’s not always about the number evidence…
