Pikes Peak Hospice looking for patriotic blankets for veterans

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care sent out a request for patriotic blankets in early January to raise 100 blankets by March 2.

Danielle Smeed, Director of Business at Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, said as of Feb. 16, they are three-fourths of the way towards their goal. The blankets are used to honor veterans who are receiving hospice care and as a thank you from the community and Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care.

“It’s also something that the family often holds on to after their loved one has passed. So they remember a good time on hospice and a last final thank you,” said Smeed.

Carolyn Kazdan, a volunteer creating blankets, said she is not only doing this to say thank you to veterans and honor the veterans in her life, such as her son and father, who was a Purple Heart veteran from World War II, but to help veterans realize their life had meaning…
