LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Drivers have killed 20 people in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) jurisdiction so far in 2026.
Among the leading causes of deadly crashes, LVMPD said drivers are speeding, driving impaired, and failing to yield. Police also said pedestrian error is a leading cause.

The leading causes stem from people failing to follow Nevada’s due care laws.
“Nevada law says that, due care, you are to reduce speed when approaching an intersection,” LVMPD Officer Michael Rose said. “Get your foot over the brake. Be prepared to stop if you need to.”
