ALBANY — A State Police senior investigator assigned to a special unit that oversees electronic surveillance has been placed on administrative duties amid an internal investigation into whether he may have improperly disclosed information about a criminal case involving an Albany police officer recently accused of drug dealing.
The senior investigator, Jeffrey B. Wait, is assigned to the State Police Special Investigations Unit at division headquarters in Albany. He had previously been a uniformed trooper with the Capital Region’s Troop G. He was named trooper of the year in 2014 and 2015 while assigned to the Brunswick barracks in Rensselaer County.
Wait’s alleged comments to other law enforcement officials preceded the Jan. 23 arrest of Albany police Officer Nathan Ensel, who had been the subject of a lengthy drug investigation by State Police and the district attorney’s offices in Albany and Rensselaer counties…
