Justice for Ivy Baker: Opelika mother pleads guilty to toddler’s murder

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) — An Opelika mother entered a guilty plea Tuesday morning inside a Lee County courtroom to felony murder in the 2021 death of her two-year-old daughter.

Chasity Umeko Baker entered the plea as part of an agreement that sentences her to 25 years in prison, according to Lee County District Attorney Jessica Ventiere.

The plea comes after Baker’s boyfriend, Jamario Mitchell, was convicted by a jury of murder in the toddler’s death. Prosecutors said the little girl, Ivy Baker, suffered a brutal and painful death after enduring hours of abuse.
