One of the last remaining locations of Genova Deli, a family-run business with century-old roots in the East Bay, will shut its doors in Walnut Creek.
The Genova Deli on California Boulevard in downtown Walnut Creek will close Wednesday. The shuttering comes on the heels of the closure of its other Walnut Creek location, on Treat Boulevard, in November. Genova Deli has operated in Walnut Creek for 58 years and is known for its Italian sandwiches, marinated artichokes and boxes of ravioli. It was on the Chronicle’s list of best restaurants in the city.
The company’s ravioli factory in Walnut Creek will remain open and will continue to sell to local stores, according to the email.
The Walnut Creek business is a branch of the original Genova Deli in Oakland, which was founded in 1926 and closed in 2016. Dominic DeVincenzi purchased the business in 1951 after marrying the niece of one of the original cofounders; he and his family members later opened the other locations, first in Walnut Creek and later in Napa. Genova Deli in Napa appears to still be in business but could not be reached for comment…
