Escambia to replace skate equipment at Chimes Way Park after outcry

The abrupt removal of skateboarding equipment at Chimes Way Park in Pensacola’s Brent community caught the attention of skaters around the county, in part because it’s one of the few smaller, skate-friendly public spots available to them.

Escambia County Parks & Recreation is planning to replace the park’s skate equipment, which is good news for skateboarders who say there’s a need for neighborhood accessible skate spots across the county.

County crews removed the equipment at Chimes Way Park in early February 2026 after neighbors complained about the general condition of the park and equipment. Some said they were afraid to bring their children to play because people who are homeless stayed there all the time, which led to public health and safety concerns including debris and unsanitary conditions…
