Crews in Chesapeake respond to overnight tank fire at Centerpoint Terminal Company

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY)– Crews in Chesapeake responded to an overnight fire in the South Norfolk area of the city.

According to officials, crews were called to Centerpoint Terminal Company, located in the 400 block of Barnes Road, at 1:37 a.m. for the report of a commercial fire. A neighboring business reported smoke and fire on the property. Crews arrived on-scene within minutes of the call and observed smoke and flames coming from within a protective berm surrounding an asphalt storage tank.

Crews deployed multiple hose lines and aggressively attacked the fire. The incident was successfully contained to the exterior of the tank, preventing it from spreading.

Officials say the tank sustained significant damage and contents inside are being emptied. The tank will be placed out of service until repairs are made…
