Knox County warns of scam targeting victims of domestic abuse

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office warns of a new scam targeting domestic violence victims and victims of other crimes in the area.

KCSO said a victim advocate was contacted by a victim who reported receiving suspicious phone calls, claiming her abuser was being released from jail.

The victim said she then received a second call stating that she needed to send $800 via Cash App or a similar app to pay for a GPS monitor, and the caller falsely said the victim was responsible for covering that cost, KCSO said…
