Suspect ‘stared and smiled’ at witness after stabbing Lincoln man, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Court documents filed Tuesday are shedding light on a stabbing and a manhunt that sent four Lincoln schools into secure mode last week.

Jesse Salamanca, 28, is charged with first- and second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. A Lancaster County judge set his bond at 10 percent of $500,000.

On Friday, just before noon, Lincoln police officers were called to an apartment complex in the area of 26th and K streets for a stabbing. A woman reported Salamanca had stabbed a 51-year-old man and fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers found the victim inside the apartment with a stab wound to the neck and a gash on his right trap muscle, court documents show. The victim, who appeared to be conscious, was taken to the hospital by Lincoln Fire and Rescue…
