El Paso County ranks first in most extreme speeders cited

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said El Paso County earned an unfortunate accolade–the county where troopers have issued the most speeding citations out of the entire state.

According to CSP, speeding penalties are adjusted based on the amount by which a driver is cited for exceeding the posted speed limit, and CSP data considers the highest speed level to be those driving 20-40+ mph over the posted limit. In 2025, CSP issued 14,562 citations at the highest level.

CSP data revealed the top counties where the extreme speeders were cited the most, with El Paso County taking the top spot at 1,675 citations. El Paso County is followed by Summit County at 1,325, Jefferson County at 848, Eagle County at 721, and Adams County at 712…
