SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A bill introduced in this legislative session that suggested changes to driver’s license age requirements has been amended, now only including driver’s education options for parents.
H.B. 464 previously suggested lowering the age requirements by six months for individuals receiving a learner permit and driver’s license, but it was not distributed, and that suggestion has been removed from the bill. The substitute bill has been changed to focus on parents being allowed to complete driver education requirements as an instructor for their child.
New bill would allow 14-year-olds to drive
The bill would direct a local education agency to provide necessary materials to parents for their child to complete driver education requirements. It would also allow parents to complete all the education requirements and behind-the-wheel driving hours for driver education purposes.
Individuals who have been issued a learner’s permit can receive a class D license upon completing a driver education course. The course could be from a commercial driver training school, a driver education program approved by the State Board of Education, or with the applicant’s parent…
