Stranded at the Truck Stop: Life on Hold During a Sierra Storm

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) – The parking lot at Sierra Sids Casino on N McCarran Blvd in Sparks is packed bumper-to-bumper with big rigs. It’s just one of many truck stops jammed to capacity as a winter storm batters the Sierra Nevada, leaving dozens of long-haul truckers in limbo.

“Well, not that easy,” said Al Mattice from Ontario. “You just gotta pay attention, keep focus on the road, and look out for the four-wheelers, that’s all.”

Over the past 24 hours, truckers have been pulling off near Robb Drive to chain up their rigs—a labor-intensive process that’s become all too familiar during storms like these…
