Mardi Gras, also called Fat Tuesday, takes place the day before Ash Wednesday. In Anchorage, the House of Bread has been busy baking festive king cakes topped with the traditional yellow, purple, and green sprinkles.
Owner Jessica Carlson says it’s a fun way to bring the Southern tradition to Alaska in the winter months:
“We have a cult following for the King Cakes. People call and make sure that we’re still doing them every year and we’re happy to oblige. It’s a fun thing for us to do.”…
