AURORA, Ohio (WOIO) – The city of Aurora has hired a contractor to begin the first phase of Aurora Park at Geauga Lake, marking the first major development on the site since Wildwater Kingdom closed in 2016.
The former water park site has remained vacant for eight years. Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said the nostalgic connection to the lake drives community excitement for the project.
“Just that nostalgic element alone, I think, excites a lot of people. I think a lot of people here love the lake and see the beauty and value of the lake and can’t wait to have access to it,” Womer Benjamin said.
