Family seeks $28.5M in death of man, 28, fatally struck by transit bus in Riverside

A family in Riverside County has announced their intention to file a $28.5 million wrongful death lawsuit against the Riverside Transit Agency for the death of a 28-year-old man last year.

The incident, according to a news release from Douglas Hicks Law, who represents the family, occurred Nov. 12 when Chibeza Dudley Nyirenda was fatally struck and run over by a public transit bus.

“Mr. Nyirenda, a Riverside resident, was lawfully attempting to board a bus at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Chicago Avenue — a stop near his home that he regularly relied upon,” the release stated. “According to the claim, the bus was operated in a manner that failed to account for the presence of a boarding passenger, resulting in catastrophic and fatal injuries.”

The family’s attorneys added that Nyirenda was on the phone with his mother, Marjorie Bradford-Nyirenda, who heard his last words, at the time of the incident.
