First Alert Forecast: Near-record warmth Wednesday, thunderstorms Thursday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – After sunset tonight, rain will start creeping into the area, with scattered showers becoming more widespread overnight. There’s a stalled front sitting near the Michigan line, but a deepening storm system moving through the Midwest will push that boundary north and help the rain spread across everyone by early Wednesday morning.

A heads up for folks along and southeast of US 24: you might stay dry initially as the system moves in, but don’t count on it lasting for too long. Plan for rain by early Wednesday morning with a few rumbles of thunder, too.

Wednesday: Near-Record Warmth

We’re looking at near-record warmth—Fort Wayne could feasibly hit 67 degrees, which would tie the record from 2017. Otherwise, southwest winds are expected to gust up to 30-35 mph with midday clearing.

Thursday into Friday: More Rain & Possible Storms

Another storm system will be on the way by the end of the week! Rain chances will increase throughout Thursday afternoon and evening. A few thunderstorms are possible, especially between 4p and 11p, and while we’re not expecting severe weather at this time, the atmosphere will be capable of producing some gusty storms. The most likely severe weather will stay across central and southern Indiana.

Weekend & Beyond: Winter’s Back

By the weekend we’re heading back to true winter weather 🙂 Expect highs in the 30s, lows in the teens, and a few snow showers, especially Sunday afternoon and evening.

Wind chills will also return to the low to mid teens, especially early next week…
