Five Big Rigs Involved In Crash Pileup At 5/14 Freeway Split

Five semi trucks were involved in a series of crashes Tuesday evening at the Interstate 5 and State Route 14 freeway split, resulting in the closure of the southbound truck lanes.

The crashes were first reported just before 7:40 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound truck route side of the busy interchange, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez.

Officials say it all began when a solo semi truck spun out in the rain and crashed, leaving debris scattered across the roadway, jack knifed and blocking lanes.

A second semi truck then struck that debris and came to a stop within the lanes…
