LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A routine repair at Paul Miller Mazda turned into a life-saving mission after a mechanic discovered three baby squirrels tucked inside a customer’s engine Monday morning.
What began as a system malfunction check quickly took an unexpected turn. Alysa Hicks, a senior technician at the dealership, said she started taking apart what appeared to be debris under the hood when something moved.

“So I begin my inspection, and I start taking apart the nest. There’s this pink, cute little guy that comes flying out, and they start squealing, and I jump back for a second. So then I’m like, ‘They’re squirrels!’” Hicks said.
Inside the engine compartment were three two-week-old squirrels, nestled tightly together. Their mother was nowhere in sight. Ironically, the tiny animals were also responsible for the customer’s visit — they had chewed through wires, triggering the system malfunction alert…
