A Villager will lose her driver’s license after calling 911 to report a hit-and-run crash at a supermarket in The Villages.
Jimita Gigi Massengill, 56, of the Village of Sunset Pointe, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of driving under the influence. She will lose her driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
She was in the parking lot of The Fresh Market at about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6 when she called to report the hit-and-run crash, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She claimed another vehicle hit and damaged her vehicle and then left the scene.
When Massengill attempted to point out the damage to her car, a deputy noticed she was very unsteady on her feet and stumbled. It appeared she had been drinking. The car keys were tucked in her bra and she had popped a Lifesaver candy into her mouth “as a cover up.” Her eyes were “bloodshot and glassy.”…
