Lane closures expected along Interstate 16 near Savannah, GDOT says

Construction is underway in Chatham County this week for widening and interchange improvements along Interstate 16. The construction will involve multiple lane closures this week, according to an advisory from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The construction is related to I-16 widening projects and interchange improvements to the I-16/Interstate 95 interchange.

The work will involve both daytime and nighttime closures spanning from Feb. 15 to Feb. 21. Here is what you need to know for traffic updates, including information on detours.

Daytime closures

Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.(Intermittent right and left lane closures)

  • I-16 westbound from the I-16/Interstate 516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange.

Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.(Intermittent right and left lane closures)

  • I-16 eastbound from the I-16/I-95 Interchange to I-16/I-516 Interchange.

Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.(Intermittent right and left lane closures)

  • I-516 westbound at the I-16 Interchange from milepost five to milepost six.
  • I-516 eastbound at the I-16 Interchange from milepost six to milepost five.

Nighttime closures

Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.(Intermittent right and left lane closures)

  • I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange.
  • I-16 eastbound from the I-16/I-95 Interchange to the I-16/I-516 Interchange.
  • I-516 westbound at the I-16 Interchange from milepost five to milepost six.
  • I-516 eastbound at the I-16 Interchange from milepost six to milepost five.

Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Double lane closures)

  • I-95 northbound at the I-16 overpass
  • I-95 southbound at the I-16 overpass

Scheduled detours

GDOT is scheduling detours to ensure there are no conflicts, and detours are being coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic, according to the department’s advisory. No more than one ramp in the I-16/I-95 Interchange will be closed at one time…
