Kei’mani’s Law would require Ohio schools to designate child protection liaisons

COLUMBUS — Every Ohio public school would be required to designate a child protection liaison under Kei’mani’s Law, state Reps. Josh Williams (R., Sylvania Township) and Darnell Brewer (D., Cleveland) said Tuesday.

“In Kei’mani’s case, teachers reported visible injuries before her death,” Mr. Williams said during a statehouse news conference announcing the bill, which would also create an online portal tracking child abuse allegations.

Kayleene Hairabedian, who taught sixth-grade English to Keimani at Bennett Venture Academy, said Keimani came to school with injuries regularly. Ms. Hairabedian said she called authorities at least twice over her concerns for the girl and knew of other educators who did as well…
