ABC7 reporter speaks out after violent carjacking attack in the Loop: ‘We need to do more’

Long-time ABC7 reporter Leah Hope on Monday night spoke out for the first time since she was violently attacked by a would-be carjacker in the Loop six weeks ago.

“We need to do more. We need to do better for people who have fallen through the cracks, people who are unhoused, people who are unwell,” Hope told her colleague, Eric Horng. “The consequences of people not getting the support they need, it affects us all.”

CWB Chicago reported on Sunday night that a veteran TV news reporter had been attacked while sitting in her SUV in the 200 block of North State Street around 12:46 p.m. on January 2, but we did not name Hope because we don’t identify crime victims unless they choose to step forward…
