St. Louis radio host’s heart condition highlights importance of family history screening

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – February is American Heart Month, drawing attention to heart disease as the leading cause of death in the United States. Heart disease sometimes develops during a lifetime and sometimes it’s inherited.

John Carney, a radio host with the Big 550 KTRS who has been on the air for 42 years, faced a life-threatening situation when something went wrong with his heart.

“I remember the chest was tightening and I was coughing and it hurt,” Carney said. “And I got out of the car, and before I could make it around ,I collapsed on the street.”…
