Boulder’s Dark Horse closing after 50 years, last call in March

BOULDER, Colo. — A beloved Boulder institution pours its final drinks next month, as the world-famous Dark Horse prepares to close after more than 50 years in business, according to a recent social media announcement. The bar opened in 1975, and has been dishing out burgers, wings and brews since.

“Everybody, once they turn 21, they’re going to the Dark Horse,” said Leonard Segel, who previously taught at the University of Colorado Boulder and serves as the current executive director of Historic Boulder. “Their instructors are going to the Dark Horse, and the alumni are going to the Dark Horse whenever they come back for tailgating for university football games.”

Developers are slated to build a new mixed-use development at the site of the restaurant, and several other businesses, that will include student housing and commercial space…
