Train derails in Washtenaw County, closing roads as crews work to clear tracks

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A few roads in Pittsfield Township will be closed for several days after a train derailed.

At least 13 train cars went off the track early Wednesday, Feb. 18, near Payeur Road, just east of State Street in Pittsfield Township.

The derailment left rail cars, axles, and parts of the train tracks scattered throughout the woods. The locomotive engine was still running and sparking as it hung off the broken track…
