Behind the Kitchen Chaos: Gordon Ramsay’s Big, Blended Family Life
Los Angeles, CA – While celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay might be best known for his fiery temper and colorful vocabulary on television, a new Netflix docuseries, “Being Gordon Ramsay,” is pulling back the curtain to reveal a softer side: that of a devoted father of six.
Ramsay, a Michelin-starred culinary icon, has been happily married to cookbook author Cayetana “Tana” Ramsay since 1996. Together, they’ve built a bustling household with three sons and three daughters. Their family made headlines recently when their daughter, Holly Ramsay, tied the knot with Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty in December, with her proud father, naturally, curating the wedding menu.
The six-episode Netflix series, which premiered on Wednesday, offers a rare glimpse into the personal life of the famously private chef. Here’s a closer look at the Ramsay family:
A Love Story and a Growing Family
Gordon and Tana Ramsay, who exchanged vows in 1996, always dreamed of a large family. Tana, then in her early 20s, first met Gordon at a New Year’s Eve party in London. Despite an initial lukewarm impression, a shared friend led to a second encounter and the start of their relationship.
Their journey to parenthood wasn’t without its challenges. After struggling to conceive and undergoing IVF, they welcomed their first child, Megan, in 1998.
Their family expanded quickly, with four children born by 2001. “We knew we wanted a large family,” Tana told The Herald in 2008, “but for it to happen that close together is amazing.
When I discovered I was expecting [our fourth child] Tilly, I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, how am I going to manage?’ But you do.”
Beyond her role as a mother, Tana, a trained teacher, is an accomplished cookbook author, with titles like “Tana’s Kitchen Secrets” and “Tana Ramsay’s Real Family Food” to her name.
Meet the Ramsay Kids: Diverse Paths, Strong Bonds
Megan Jane Ramsay (Born 1998): The Private Graduate
Megan, 27, is the eldest Ramsay child and prefers to stay out of the public eye. In June 2019, she became the first in her family to graduate from college, earning a degree from Oxford Brookes University – a moment her proud dad celebrated on Instagram, writing, “So proud of this young Lady… hard work pays off!”
While she generally maintains a low profile, Megan did make a cameo on a 2021 episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” for her 21st birthday. Her father, ever the candid personality, once publicly (and playfully) disparaged her ex-boyfriend, calling him “a bit wet” on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
However, he’s also quick to express his adoration, sharing a heartfelt birthday message for her 24th in May 2022, “Happy Birthday to this gorgeous lady. Words can’t describe enough how proud you make me feel every day.”
Holly and Jack Ramsay (Born 1999): Twins with Different Dreams
Born prematurely on December 31, 1999, Holly Anna Ramsay and Jack Scott Ramsay arrived seven weeks early. Tana has openly shared her struggles as a mother to premature twins, celebrating their resilience in a 2020 Instagram post: “Seeing them become little chubby, healthy babies within the first year was a true blessing and I will always be grateful for the determination they showed and their feisty characters.”
Today, the 26-year-old twins share a close bond but have pursued very different career paths.
- Holly Ramsay: Advocate, Model, and Producer
Holly Ramsay is a prominent mental health advocate, podcast and documentary producer, influencer, and model, boasting over 500,000 Instagram followers. In 2021, she launched her podcast “21 & Over,” where she bravely shared her mental health journey and disclosed being a survivor of sexual assault.
In December 2025, Holly married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty. For their first dance, she honored her mother by changing into Tana's 1996 wedding gown. Her father's emotional connection to the wedding was evident, as Holly recounted to Vogue, "The other day I was asking him which car he and I would take to the church, and he welled up immediately."
- Jack Ramsay: Royal Marine and Athlete
Jack is the athletic powerhouse of the Ramsay clan, with a background in rugby, water polo, and jiu-jitsu.
In 2020, he joined the Royal Marines, a momentous achievement his father proudly announced on Instagram: “Can’t tell you enough how proud I am of this young man Jack Ramsay you’ve made me feel like the proudest father today congrats on joining @royalmarines what amazing achievement.” A year prior, Ramsay had celebrated Jack’s completion of the grueling Ironman Triathlon at just 19 years old.
Matilda “Tilly” Ramsay (Born 2001): The Culinary Star
Matilda, affectionately known as Tilly, has embraced the spotlight, following in her parents’ culinary footsteps. In 2015, she began starring in her own BBC children’s cooking show, “Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch,” and later released a companion cookbook.
Tilly has also graced other TV screens, competing on “Strictly Come Dancing” and Australia’s “MasterChef.” In 2024, she graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of Nottingham. She’s a sensation on TikTok, where her cooking videos have garnered nearly 10 million followers, and in 2025, she hosted her own Amazon cooking show, “Dish It Out.”
A Family’s Heartbreak and New Beginnings
In 2016, Tana experienced a heartbreaking miscarriage five months into her pregnancy, losing their son, Rocky. Tana has courageously spoken publicly about their loss, advocating for open discussions around miscarriage, telling Metro in 2020, “I found it really hard when people would talk to me and not mention it because it was like it never happened.”
In an emotional October 2021 Instagram post, Tana honored Rocky: “If all had gone as we hoped yesterday 14/10/21 would have been our little boy Rocky’s 5th birthday, the day he was due not the day he was actually born when he was too little to survive.” She praised Gordon’s support during this difficult time, noting, “Gordon was amazing, and he’s always been one to talk about everything, and he was very good at sort of talking it out of me and never making me feel that, ‘Oh, you know, maybe we shouldn’t talk about it.'” In memory of Rocky, Holly and Jack ran the London Marathon in 2018, raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Oscar James Ramsay (Born 2019): The “Last Hope” Chef?
In April 2019, the Ramsays welcomed Oscar James. Tana celebrated his 4th birthday in 2023 with photos on Instagram, writing, “4 already – wow where has that gone!!
4 years of loving you you crazy clever little boy – love you endlessly.” Oscar even has his own Instagram account, managed by his sisters Tilly and Holly.
Gordon playfully told Jimmy Fallon in a January 2021 interview that Oscar was his “last hope” for any of his children to enter the cooking industry.
Jesse James Ramsay (Born 2023): Completing the Family of Eight
The Ramsay family grew to a party of eight in November 2023 with the arrival of Jesse James Ramsay. Gordon announced the birth on Instagram on November 11, 2023, sharing a photo of Tana and their newborn, confirming, “3 boys, 3 girls…. Done.”
This final addition came after Gordon had mused in 2021 about the possibility of another child. “I said it was a great idea.
She said: ‘Well, let’s start planning.’ So I’m like: ‘Oh my god, just pause for two seconds.
I’m going to be the oldest dad at school, what’s going to happen on sports day?'” Ramsay told the Daily Mail at the time.
“But it’s something we’d still consider, because it’s been such a joy spending time with Oscar.”
From the competitive kitchen to the loving home, “Being Gordon Ramsay” promises a heartwarming look at the man behind the chef’s coat and the incredible family he’s built.
